Etude Princes Run : All Pink Affair

25 May

Vicky and I had such a great time at the Etude Princess Run. If you like pink, then this is the race for you. Men and women…even dogs were out in their pink glory. Here are some of my favorite princesses.

And of course we had a little prince, too.

Participants had so much fun. Although I have to say that this run could also be dubbed, the “selfie run” check out for photos on Instagram #etudeprincessrun and #etudepinkfair. I am so looking forward to the 2015 edition, pleeeeease etude!

My favorite part of the race was when the hosts announced that Dingdong Dantes was going to run the 5K. I swear the shrieks and kilig giggles that swept through the starting line was so funny. And then you hear little girls saying, “Let’s run after him…” Poor Dong.

My run? It went great. I finished 5.5Km in 40:49. I think I’ve fallen in love with 5K races again. i just need to go a bit faster and faster every time. This is my second race with my Mizuno Wave Rider 17 and I’m a convert.

Plus, I had a great excuse to have slightly sinful breakfast at IHOP.

Thanks to Etude and KulitRunner!

Day 27 : Ran

20 Mar

20 March 2014
Ran to SM Aura today to register for NatGeo run. It was cool today. Left the house at about 7ish so I knew I had enough time to get to Aura before reg booth closes at 9pm.

Easy and relax run for me. Registering was easy as well. And they take your photo pa after.

I heard some people asking for the longer distances. I know, I know…longer distances are way sexier and better for bragging rights plus you get a cool finisher’s shirt pa.

But …

If there is one race that you should consider stepping down to 5K, I say this is it because…

In 2014, NGC promises to raise money for WWF’s Bancas for the Philippines project. This project aims to train fishermen affected by Typhoon Yolanda last November 2013 in making and using fiberglass boats for artisanal fishing. These boats are designed to withstand the onslaught of typhoons to ensure that the fishermen can continue with their livelihood.

They still need our help. Just because it is no longer in the news, it doesn’t mean that all is okay and back to normal. Let’s all do our share.

So tara, 5K na tayo!

Active Health Sports Gel : Check it out here and at RUPM 2013

1 Oct

I am fan of sports gels. I’d never race without one. It gives me that extra zoooom I need when my energy drops and that extra kick to a great finish. I have favorite brand but this new entrant is worth a look.

Introducing the first sports gel made in Asia, the ACTIVE HEALTH SPORTS GEL!!! I said I have a favorite gel, raved about it often enough in this blog but AH Sports Gel is worth checking out.

1. AH Sports Gel has greater carb content. 29g per serve compared to my favorite brand’s 25g. Remember carbs = FUEL.

2. More complex carbs. simple carbs like sugar will give you the omph but burns quickly. So geeky me is thinking complex carbs means slow sustained burn. I’m imagining charcoal burning over flash ‘n bang.

3. Syrupy consistency. And this is my favorite bit. I love my other brand but it is kinda thick and I have to wash it down with water. AH Sports Gel’s consistency is just perfect.

Oh and kids, runners old and new, I might opt not to wash down with water gels with lighter consistency but it doesn’t mean that I don’t drink water anymore and neglect my hydration. Lest you get confused, gels = nutrition. Water (or sports drinks) = Hydration. Finding the right mix of nutrition and hydration is key. And you thought running is just all about lacing up and putting one foot in front of the other. To neglect hydration and depend solely on nutrition would be unwise and spells doom.

So back to the consistency, this one nga I like kasi I don’t have to wash it down with water. It means I can have a bit of sweetness in my mouth a bit longer.

So now you ask, when to drink water? Ahh … that my dear friend is the tricky balance of hydration and nutrition that you will only learn as you pound the pavements and train. I’ve heard one to many stories of goal and PR times dashed and shattered due to bad nutrition and hydration. There are recommendations out there. Read. Experiment. Train. And lastly listen to your body’s demands and likes. When you figure that out, you can almost always guarantee a great finish. Promise!

This is prolly not as technical as 1, 2 or 3 but equally important to me.
4. Easy to open. Check it out! No more struggling at races. Bite and rrrrrippp!
Runners on Sunday’s RUPM 2013 will get to check out Asia’s first sports gel. Good running to all participants. Special shout out to 7747 regulars – Kit Atienza and Rod Sollesta. Rod, may special shout out is Kit kasi he sent me a selfine hehe20131001-233158.jpg
I’m super inggit, the finish line for 42km runners is soooooo good! Have a great run kids!

Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer (KGBC) Manila Run

12 Aug

20130812-200025.jpgAvon invites You to Do Something Beautiful Against Breast Cancer. Register for this year’s Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer (KGBC) Manila Run beginning August 12

Up to this day, breast cancer remains the top killer of Filipino women, creating an urgent call to every individual—not just those afflicted with the disease—to step up and take part in the fight against this life-threatening condition.

Simply knowing such facts does not change things, but concrete action towards better prevention, treatment and support, in whatever form, can go a long way. Avon, the foremost corporate advocate of breast cancer, invites every Filipino to seize the opportunity to do something through the 2013 Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer (KGBC) fundraising event.

Since its Philippine launch in 2002, it has been Avon KGBC’s mission to help provide access to care and support to medically under-served women. This year, the company for women is once again leading the charge to gain further support for the cause by launching the ‘Do Something Beautiful Against Breast Cancer’ Campaign, the idea behind which is simple enough – it speaks to the Filipino’s innate trait of being matulungin or helpful, doing something for someone because you are capable and are willing to help another in need.

GMA 7 star Solenn Heussaff, the cause’s newest ambassador, joins Avon in inviting everyone to concretize their commitment to the fight against breast cancer that culminates with its annual Manila Run Event.

For a registration fee of Php550 for the 5k event and Php700 for the 10k event, individuals will receive the Avon KGBC Race Kit, which already includes a singlet, race number and giveaway. Proceeds from the event, which will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Open Grounds on October 13, will go to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Breast Care Center and selected provincial hospitals.

Registration for the Run will be held beginning August 12, 2013 at the following Chris Sports Branches: SM North Edsa; SM Megamall; SM Mall of Asia; Glorietta 3, Makati; Festival Mall, Alabang; and Fitness and Athletics (The Fort).

You can also register online and get more details about the cause at http://www.avon.com.ph or facebook.com/AvonPhilippines, and @AvonPH on Twitter and Instagram.

Get on your mark, and get ready to Do Something Beautiful Against Breast Cancer. Your active participation not only makes you an agent of change, but also translates into a significant contribution towards the fight against breast cancer
