Virlanie who?

When you register for Globe’s Run For Home 2011, you will have an opportunity to run for the benefit of 4 partner institutions : Gawad Kalinga, Habitat for Humanity, Haribon Foundation and Virlanie Foundation. A portion of your registration fee will be given to the institution you will choose when you register.

I was going to pick and default to the more popular institutions. Then at the press launch,  I had a brief chat with one of the representatives of Virlanie, Maren.  She told me a bit about their organisation.

I know that it’s only Php50 of my reg fee, but it is still a choice. I opted to run for a home that aims to empower children so that they can have a brighter future.

Maren mentioned also that their kids at Virlanie are encouraged to participate in sporting activities . It is part of their holistic program for kids. When asked, she said that the kids at Virlanie have participated in a few youth olympics and even won medals.I asked if they have kids who can run 3K and if they will be interested to join the race. She said yes. *light bulb* Premiere races now are like fiestas. It would be such an exciting experience for them to participate in the race and all the post race activities. I volunteered to sponsor a couple of kiddie runners to join the race so they too can experience the fun and have a taste of the joy of running.

See you all on March 27!
