Workdrama made me miss my scheduled recovery run last Tuesday. I finally had time for my recovery run yesterday. Since it was an easy run day, I decided to run/walk – 4min run and 1min walk.
I completed the hour long run easily and even had time to work on my form. The treadmill I used was near the windows so I could see my reflection and there is also a wall of mirrors on my left side. When I checked my form, I noticed that I was bouncing too much, a lot of upper body twisting and head bobbing (for visuals, imagine a bobble head figurine … running).
I focused on practicing again the controlled falling form … body a bit tilted forward, tried to keep my elbows from flaring by making sure they are pointed behind me, kept a long spine and tight abs. A lot of things to concentrate on so this kept me distracted for my hour long run. I noticed that as I made small adjustments to finetune my form, my rhythm because more fluid. I don’t know how to explain it. Give it a try.
An article said that one way to practice good form is to concentrate on one aspect at a time. We all have different forms. At races, I find it very interesting to observe the running form of the other runners. One form is not exactly better than the other but for some tips on proper form check out this article at Runner’s World — The Perfect Form. Or you can try joining the Mizuno Run every other Thursday at Bonifacio High Street. The running coach is very helpful plus you get to observe seasoned runners also.

Hi Bards, this is great. I can totally relate to your logs. By the way, now I feel intimidated by how much you have progressed in a very short period. You just started running this year? Been doing this for two already. Well, I guess I’ll see more of you in the gym and on the road.

Thanks for dropping by Tina. Its training for the subic half that really pushed me (thanks for bullying me Mesh). Kung wala ako target race I’d still be doing the quota 30min treadmill run. See you at the gym and at the races.

I agree completely with the Runner’s World article that says to concentrate on one aspect of your form at a time. Right now I’m following a plan from the book ‘Brain Training for Runners’ and it has you concentrate on one cue a week, such as ’scooting’ or ‘falling forward’. I’m finding it really helpful!
